Home Appliances (Optical Shutter)

cooler_black_sml.jpg
Citala's optical shutters, seen here embedded in the glass door of a high-end wine and beverage cooler, add a "wow factor" and utility to home appliances. At the flip of a switch, this door turns from translucent black to transparent, enabling users to see their inventory of drinks without disturbing the temperature balance within the cooler by opening its door.

It's a high-tech and highly efficient now you see it - now you don't effect, made possible by Citala's APDTM technology with OnyxTM, uniquely encapsulated particles sandwiched between paper thin layers of flexible substrate. Upon exposure to voltage, OnyxTM particles align, allowing the efficient passage of light. When the voltage is turned off, the OnyxTM particles return to an unaligned position, and the APDTM panel (in this case, an appliance door) turns dark again.
