Product Focus: Displays and interactive keypad controls for cardiovascular and strength training equipment. Overview:  Star Trac, an Irvine, Calif.-based leader in the high-end commercial fitness industry, needed an interactive keypad display for its Star Trac Pro Treadmill and Star Trac Elite treadmills. The company wanted its high-end, state-of-the-art treadmill line to include several, user-friendly, interactive smart features to be integrated into the treadmill’s IntelliTrac control panel.The integrated interactive controls and display were to provide easy, step-by-step programming of a fully customized exercise program—simply programmed by pressing the prompts, lit buttons on the display. Durability was key to Star Trac’s vision for its new treadmill line. It was essential that the treadmill’s control panel display be durable enough to withstand more than 20 hours of constant daily beating. Moreover, it needed to be resistant to moisture, sweat, vibration and cleaning materials. Results: Based on these stringent requirements, Star Trac decided to incorporate Citala’s Active Pixel Display (APDTM) into its Pro and Elite treadmills. Using APDTM, Citala developed an easy-to-read, color, and fully interactive control panel with integrated switching within an extremely rugged form factor—thus creating the unique IntelliTrac prompted control panel.
