R2R enables customization and economies of scale (November 2007) Citala, a pioneer in flexible reflective display technology and the developer and manufacturer of the Active Pixel Display (APDTM), announces that it is adding roll-to-roll digital patterning equipment to its high-speed, roll-to-roll (R2R) manufacturing process. Citala’s genuine roll-to-roll manufacturing line has been designed for cost-effective mass production and customization of flexible displays as well as optical shutter film material, which can be produced on the same line. Manufacturing takes place in clean rooms at Citala’s facility in Sunnyvale, CA – the heart of Silicon Valley. Citala’s R2R enables coating and patterning as well as customized cutting and layering on wide and very long formats to better meet customer specifications. Citala’s high-yield R2R manufacturing produces superior levels of uniformity and repeatability, resulting in an efficient and cost effective process. It can produce features with a pitch as thin as 0.2 mm. Employing a complete, in-house production line assures that Citala will be able to provide its customers with exactly what they want in a fast and timely manner. Citala also designs and supplies flexible electronic solutions for special applications.
