Citala Spearheads High-Resolution Flexible Display Program

APDTM and roll-to-roll to synergize with active matrix backplanes

(February 2008)   Citala, a pioneer in flexible reflective display technology, has spearheaded a program for developing high-resolution displays on truly flexible substrates.

The development program, which is poised to change the current paradigm of rigid, glass-based displays, combines Citala’s Active Pixel Display (APDTM) with an active matrix backplane to create a flexible, high-resolution color display capable of video speed. Ultimately, this program will lead to other flexible products that break the design constraints of glass-based displays. Future products will include: wearable displays, electronic paper (e-paper), e-books, and more.
 
Citala’s development strategy is to integrate OnyxTM, the core of APDTM technology, and roll-to-roll manufacturing with an innovative partner capable of producing a flexible active-matrix backplane. The company expects to achieve a fully functional integration in the near future.
