In a nutshell: Citala’s flexible reflective APDTM features a fast response time, full-color, and the simplicity of roll-to-roll manufacturing – advantages over electrophoretics and electrochromics.
Citala’s competitive advantage over other flexible display solutions stems from its proprietary APDTM technology coupled with its roll-to-roll manufacturing muscle. Citala empowers designers to achieve creative enhancements as well as new and truly flexible products, once thought impossible. Companies need no longer wait for customizable display technology that is flexible, readable, low-power, and interactive. With Citala, this technology is accessible, affordable, and in production now.
At the core of Citala’s innovative technology is a customizable solid compound, Onyx™, consisting of uniquely encapsulated micro droplets. When voltage is applied, the droplets are realigned, allowing an efficient transmission of light, which reflects off the background layer of the display. The efficient, reliable, and relatively simple application of OnyxTM between two flexible layers of PET/ITO substrate makes this technology high-yield, thinner, more flexible and more durable than other display technologies.

The APD™ is composed of significantly fewer layers than an LCD, thus providing a number of advantages:
- improved optical properties
- better light transmission
- thinness
- a simpler manufacturing process
