Citala has pioneered the Active Pixel Display (APD™), a flexible, reflective, thin, low-power, lightweight, and color display technology offering unparalleled viewing ability, durability, and flexibility. APD™ is based on Citala’s proprietary Onyx™. The unique encapsulation of Onyx™ particles is at the heart of the APD™’s simpler construction, superior performance, and ability to withstand humidity and harsh environmental conditions.

The APD™ panel consists of a thin layer of Onyx™ sandwiched between two flexible and transparent layers of PET/ITO substrate. When voltage is applied to the APD™ panel, the Onyx™ micro droplets are realigned, allowing an efficient transmission of light, which reflects off the background layer of the display, resulting in clear and vibrant readability.

The efficient, reliable, and relatively simple application of Onyx™ between two flexible layers of PET/ITO substrate makes APD™ technology high-yield, thinner, more flexible and more durable than other display technologies.

Sunlight Readability: APD™ technology does not use polarizers and therefore features excellent readability, brightness, vibrant colors, and wide viewing angles. Unlike emissive technology, APD™ displays are readable in all lighting conditions, including bright sunlight. Reflectivity makes them brighter in outdoor and indoor conditions. A very fast response time and reflective color capability position APD™ as a leader in flexible reflective display technology.
